House, home, daily routine and helping at home

Describe your home, your daily routine with reflexive verbs, and the chores you do.

Your home

Vivo en una casa (house) / un piso (flat) en las afueras (on the outskirts).
Rooms: la cocina (kitchen), el salón (living room), el dormitorio (bedroom), el cuarto de baño (bathroom), el jardín (garden).
En la planta baja hay... (On the ground floor there is...) Arriba hay... (Upstairs there is...)

Daily routine

Reflexive verbs: me despierto (I wake up), me levanto (I get up), me ducho (I shower), me visto (I get dressed), me acuesto (I go to bed).
Stem changes: despierto, visto, acuesto.
Desayuno a las siete y media. Vuelvo a casa a las cuatro.

Helping at home

Pongo la mesa (I lay the table), quito la mesa (I clear the table), lavo los platos (I wash up), hago la cama (I make the bed), paso la aspiradora (I vacuum), saco la basura (I take out the rubbish).
Worked example

Translate: I get up at seven and I have a shower.

  1. I get up = me levanto
  2. at seven = a las siete
  3. I have a shower = me ducho

Answer: Me levanto a las siete y me ducho.

Key idea

Rooms: cocina, salón, dormitorio, cuarto de baño. Routine uses reflexive verbs (me levanto, me ducho, me acuesto). Chores: pongo la mesa, lavo los platos, saco la basura.
