When I was little
Use the imperfect: Cuando era pequeño / pequeña, vivía en un pueblo, tenía un perro y jugaba con mis primos.
Contrast with now: Antes jugaba al fútbol, pero ahora juego al baloncesto.

Translate: When I was six I used to have a cat.
- when I was six: age in the past uses tener in the imperfect, tenía seis años
- I used to have: imperfect again, tenía
