Comparing your home with someone else's is easier with possessive pronouns: mine, yours, his, hers.

Rooms and floors

la cuisine (kitchen), le salon (living room), la salle à manger (dining room), la salle de bains (bathroom), ma chambre (my bedroom), le jardin (garden).
au rez-de-chaussée (on the ground floor), au premier étage (on the first floor), au deuxième étage (on the second floor).
Je partage ma chambre avec ... = I share my room with ...

Possessive pronouns

Agreement

The pronoun agrees with the thing owned, not the owner.
Ta chambre est grande. La mienne est petite. (chambre is feminine)
Mon jardin est petit. Le sien est énorme. (his or hers)
Worked example

Translate: My bedroom is bigger than yours (tu).

  1. My bedroom: ma chambre (feminine).
  2. Bigger than: plus grande que.
  3. Yours: chambre is feminine, so la tienne.

Answer: Ma chambre est plus grande que la tienne.

Key idea

le mien / la mienne / les miens / les miennes, and so on. They agree with the thing owned. au rez-de-chaussée = on the ground floor.
