Describing people means using adjectives, and in French adjectives change to agree with the person they describe.
Family words
le père (father), la mère (mother), le frère (brother), la sœur (sister), les parents (parents), le grand-père (grandfather), la grand-mère (grandmother).
My: mon, ma, mes
mon with masculine nouns: mon frère.
ma with feminine nouns: ma mère.
mes with plurals: mes parents.
ma with feminine nouns: ma mère.
mes with plurals: mes parents.
Adjective agreement
Add -e for feminine, -s for plural, -es for feminine plural.
Mon frère est grand. Ma sœur est grande. Mes frères sont grands.
If the adjective already ends in -e, it does not change for feminine: il est calme, elle est calme.
In French most adjectives come after the noun: un chat noir.
Mon frère est grand. Ma sœur est grande. Mes frères sont grands.
If the adjective already ends in -e, it does not change for feminine: il est calme, elle est calme.
In French most adjectives come after the noun: un chat noir.
Translate: My sister is small and quiet.
- My sister: sœur is feminine, so ma sœur.
- small: petit becomes petite.
- quiet: calme already ends in e, so it stays calme.
Answer: Ma sœur est petite et calme.
Mon (masculine), ma (feminine), mes (plural). Adjectives add -e for feminine and -s for plural, and usually come after the noun.
