The perfect tense says what someone has done: he visitado = I have visited.
Formation
Present of haber + past participle.
he, has, ha, hemos, habéis, han
-ar verbs: -ado (visitado). -er and -ir verbs: -ido (comido, vivido).
He visitado Madrid. Hemos comido paella.

Irregular past participles
hacer: hecho, ver: visto, escribir: escrito, decir: dicho, poner: puesto, volver: vuelto, abrir: abierto, romper: roto, morir: muerto.
Using it
For what has happened, often with hoy, este año, ya, nunca.
Nunca he estado en México. (I have never been to Mexico.)
