Comparing: más, menos and tan

Compare people and things with more, less and as ... as. A few common words are irregular.

More and less

más + adjective + que = more ... than
menos + adjective + que = less ... than
The adjective agrees: Mi hermana es más alta que yo.

As ... as

tan + adjective + como = as ... as
El inglés es tan útil como el español.

Irregular forms

mejor / mejores = better, peor / peores = worse, mayor = older, menor = younger.
Say mejor, not más bueno. Este libro es mejor que la película.
Mejor and peor also work as adverbs: Juego mejor que mi hermano.
Worked example

Translate: History is more interesting than technology.

  1. more ... than = más ... que
  2. interesante ends in -e, so it does not change for gender

Answer: La historia es más interesante que la tecnología.

Key idea

Más / menos + adjective + que; tan + adjective + como. Mejor, peor, mayor, menor are irregular. The adjective still agrees.
