Exam skills: Paper 2 Speaking
The speaking exam has three tasks. Knowing the marks and timings for each one helps you plan your 12 minutes of preparation.
The paper
Role play and picture
Role play: one prompt is an unexpected question, so listen carefully. You must also ask a question yourself, so prepare one: هل يوجد ...؟ كم سعر ...؟ متى يبدأ ...؟
Picture: في الصورة أرى ... (In the picture I see ...), على اليمين / على اليسار, يبدو أنّ ... (it seems that ...).
Describe who is there, where they are and what they are doing, then give an opinion.

Conversation
Develop every answer: an opinion (في رأيي ...), a reason (لأنّ ...), and another time frame (past with ذهبتُ, future with سأذهب).
Useful fillers: حسنًا ... في الحقيقة ... بصراحة ...
If you do not understand: هل يمكن أن تكرّر السؤال من فضلك؟ (Could you repeat the question, please?)

Develop this answer: هل تحبّ الرياضة؟ نعم.
- Opinion: نعم، أحبّ الرياضة كثيرًا.
- Reason: لأنّها مفيدة للصحة.
- Another time frame: في الأسبوع الماضي لعبتُ كرة القدم، وغدًا سأذهب إلى المسبح.
Answer: نعم، أحبّ الرياضة كثيرًا لأنّها مفيدة للصحة. في الأسبوع الماضي لعبتُ كرة القدم، وغدًا سأذهب إلى المسبح.
Three tasks: role play (10), picture-based task (24), conversation (36): 70 marks. 12 minutes' preparation. Develop answers with opinion, reason and past, present and future.
