Being green: advice and commands to a group
Environmental campaigns speak to everyone at once. That means plural commands: recycle, turn off, don't throw.
The environment
البيئة the environment, التَّلَوُّث pollution, إعادةُ التَّدْوير recycling, النُّفايات rubbish, waste, البلاسْتيك plastic.
الطّاقةُ الشَّمْسِيّة solar energy, تَوْفيرُ الماءِ والكَهْرَباء saving water and electricity, المُواصَلاتُ العامّة public transport.
تَغَيُّرُ المُناخ climate change, الاحْتِباسُ الحَراريّ global warming, الأَشْجار trees.
الطّاقةُ الشَّمْسِيّة solar energy, تَوْفيرُ الماءِ والكَهْرَباء saving water and electricity, المُواصَلاتُ العامّة public transport.
تَغَيُّرُ المُناخ climate change, الاحْتِباسُ الحَراريّ global warming, الأَشْجار trees.
Commands to a group
Giving advice
مِنَ المُهِمِّ أَنْ نُعيدَ تَدْويرَ البلاسْتيك = It is important that we recycle plastic.
مِنَ الضَّروريِّ أَنْ نَزْرَعَ أَشْجارًا = It is essential that we plant trees.
في رَأْيي يَجِبُ عَلى الحُكومةِ أَنْ تَسْتَثْمِرَ في الطّاقةِ الشَّمْسِيّة = In my opinion the government must invest in solar energy.
مِنَ الضَّروريِّ أَنْ نَزْرَعَ أَشْجارًا = It is essential that we plant trees.
في رَأْيي يَجِبُ عَلى الحُكومةِ أَنْ تَسْتَثْمِرَ في الطّاقةِ الشَّمْسِيّة = In my opinion the government must invest in solar energy.
Translate: It is important to save water.
- It is important: من المهم.
- That we save: أن نوفّر (subjunctive).
- Water: الماء.
Answer: من المهم أن نوفّر الماء.
Plural commands end in ـوا: استخدموا، أطفئوا. Don't (to a group): لا ترموا، لا تضيّعوا. من المهم أن / من الضروري أن + verb. Words: البيئة، التلوث، إعادة التدوير، النفايات، الطاقة الشمسية.
