Numbers, days, months and birthdays

You need numbers for ages, prices, times and dates. Count to 31 and say when your birthday is.

Numbers 1 to 20

uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis, siete, ocho, nueve, diez,
once, doce, trece, catorce, quince, dieciséis, diecisiete, dieciocho, diecinueve, veinte.

21 to 31

21 to 29 are one word: veintiuno, veintidós, veintitrés, veinticuatro, veinticinco, veintiséis, veintisiete, veintiocho, veintinueve.
30 treinta, 31 treinta y uno. From 31 onwards, the numbers are three words: treinta y dos, cuarenta y cinco.

Days, months and dates

Days: lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado, domingo.
Months: enero, febrero, marzo, abril, mayo, junio, julio, agosto, septiembre, octubre, noviembre, diciembre.
In Spanish, days and months have no capital letter.
Dates: el + number + de + month: el catorce de julio.
Mi cumpleaños es el tres de marzo. = My birthday is on the 3rd of March.
Worked example

Translate: My birthday is on the 21st of June.

  1. My birthday is: mi cumpleaños es...
  2. the 21st: el veintiuno.
  3. of June: de junio (no capital).

Answer: Mi cumpleaños es el veintiuno de junio.

Key idea

Numbers 1 to 20, then one word up to 29 (veintiuno, veintidós), then treinta, treinta y uno. Days and months have no capital letter. Dates: el + number + de + month.
