Say what you do in your free time, how often, and what you don't do.

Jugar and hacer

jugar (to play a sport or game) changes its stem: juego, juegas, juega, jugamos, jugĂĄis, juegan.
Jugar a: a + el = al. Juego al fĂștbol, al baloncesto, a los videojuegos.
hacer (to do): hago, haces, hace, hacemos, hacéis, hacen. Hago deporte. Hago los deberes.
tocar for instruments: Toco la guitarra.

Other hobbies and how often

escucho mĂșsica, veo la tele (I watch TV), leo (I read), monto en bici (I ride my bike), nado (I swim), salgo con mis amigos (I go out with my friends)
todos los dĂas (every day), a menudo (often), a veces (sometimes), de vez en cuando (from time to time), los fines de semana (at weekends), nunca (never)

Saying what you don't do

Put no before the verb: No juego al rugby.
Nunca (never) can go before the verb on its own: Nunca leo.
Or after it, with no in front: No leo nunca.
Worked example

Translate: I often play football but I never swim.

  1. I often play football: juego al fĂștbol a menudo.
  2. but: pero.
  3. I never swim: nunca nado.

Answer: Juego al fĂștbol a menudo pero nunca nado.

Key idea

Jugar (juego, juegas, juega...) + al / a la / a los for sports and games; hacer (hago) for activities; tocar for instruments. No goes before the verb; nunca = never.
