Talk about what you eat and drink at each meal, and order politely in a café.

Meals

el desayuno (breakfast): desayuno = I have breakfast
la comida (lunch): como = I have lunch / I eat
la cena (evening meal): ceno = I have dinner
Para desayunar, como cereales y bebo zumo de naranja.

Food and drink

el pan (bread), el queso (cheese), el pollo (chicken), el pescado (fish), la carne (meat), las verduras (vegetables), la fruta, el arroz (rice), los huevos (eggs), las patatas fritas (chips)
el agua (water), la leche (milk), el zumo de naranja (orange juice), el té, el café, los refrescos (fizzy drinks)
Spanish needs no word for "some": Como pan. = I eat (some) bread.
With gustar keep the article: Me gusta el queso.

Ordering

¿Qué vas a tomar? / ¿Qué quiere tomar? = What will you have?
Quiero / Quisiera (I would like) un bocadillo de jamón, por favor. = a ham sandwich
¿Algo más? = Anything else? La cuenta, por favor. = The bill, please.
Soy vegetariano / vegetariana. = I am vegetarian.
Worked example

Translate: For breakfast I eat bread and I drink milk.

  1. For breakfast: para desayunar (or en el desayuno).
  2. I eat bread: como pan (no word for some).
  3. I drink milk: bebo leche.

Answer: Para desayunar como pan y bebo leche.

Key idea

El desayuno, la comida, la cena. Spanish needs no word for some: como pan, bebo agua. Keep the article after gustar. Quisiera..., por favor. La cuenta, por favor.
