Relative pronouns join two ideas into one longer sentence, which makes your French sound more fluent.
Media words
une émission (a programme), une série (a series), un film d'horreur (a horror film), un documentaire, une comédie, un film d'action, les infos (the news), un acteur / une actrice, un chanteur / une chanteuse (singer), une chanson (song).
Qui and que
qui (who, which, that) is followed by a verb: J'aime les films qui font peur.
que (whom, which, that) is followed by a subject + verb: La série que je regarde est géniale.
Que becomes qu' before a vowel: le film qu'il préfère. Qui never shortens.

Où
où = where, and also when after a time word.
Le cinéma où je vais est moderne.
Le jour où j'ai vu le concert, il pleuvait.

Join the sentences: J'ai un ami. Il adore le rap.
- The second sentence starts with a subject (il).
- Replace il with qui, because a verb follows.
- J'ai un ami qui adore le rap.
Answer: J'ai un ami qui adore le rap.
qui + verb; que (qu') + subject + verb; où = where (or when after a time word). They turn two short sentences into one.
