Careers: become, still and كان's sisters

To say what you want to become, Arabic uses أصبح or صار. Like كان, they make the job word accusative.

كان's sisters

My future career

أُريدُ أَنْ أُصْبِحَ طَبيبًا = I want to become a doctor (a girl: طَبيبةً).
I hope to become a successful programmer.
My dream is to work in technology.

Justifying a choice

الرّاتِبُ جَيِّد = The salary is good. العَمَلُ مُتْعِب = The work is tiring.
I want a profession in which I help people.
I don't want to work in an office because that is boring.
Worked example

Translate: My brother became an engineer last year.

  1. Became: أصبح (verb first).
  2. My brother:
  3. An engineer: accusative مهندسًا; last year: في السنة الماضية.

Key idea

أصبح / صار (became), ما زال (still), ليس (is not) work like كان: the predicate takes ـًا.
