water. Feminine, but it takes el in the singular because it starts with a stressed a: el agua fría.

friend (male). A female friend is la amiga.

bus. By bus = en autobús.

plane. By plane = en avión.

year. Tengo doce años. Keep the ñ: without it the word means something quite different.

comer (regular -er verb)
como, comes, come, comemos, coméis, comen.
estar (to be: location, feelings)
estoy, estás, está, estamos, estáis, están. Estoy en casa. Estoy cansado.
gustar (to like)
me gusta + one thing or an infinitive; me gustan + plural: me gusta el inglés, me gustan los gatos.
hablar (regular -ar verb)
hablo, hablas, habla, hablamos, habláis, hablan.
hacer (to do, to make)
hago, haces, hace, hacemos, hacéis, hacen. Also weather: hace sol.
ir (to go)
voy, vas, va, vamos, vais, van. Voy al cine.
jugar (to play a sport or game)
juego, juegas, juega, jugamos, jugáis, juegan. Juego al tenis.
levantarse (reflexive)
me levanto, te levantas, se levanta, nos levantamos, os levantáis, se levantan.
Near future
ir + a + infinitive: voy a jugar = I am going to play. Negative: no voy a jugar.
Negatives
no (not), nunca (never), nada (nothing), nadie (nobody), tampoco (not either), ya no (no longer). No goes before the verb: no juego nunca.
Opinions
me encanta, me gusta, no me gusta, odio. En mi opinión, creo que = in my opinion, I think that.
Perfect tense
haber + past participle: he visitado, has comido, ha vivido, hemos, habéis, han. Irregular: hecho, visto, escrito.
poder, querer, tener que
puedo (I can), quiero (I want), tengo que (I have to), each + infinitive: puedo salir.
Preterite of -ar verbs
hablé, hablaste, habló, hablamos, hablasteis, hablaron. The accents matter: hablo = I speak, habló = he spoke.
Preterite of -er and -ir verbs
comí, comiste, comió, comimos, comisteis, comieron. Vivir: viví, viviste, vivió...
Preterite of ir and ser
fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fuisteis, fueron. Fui a Madrid = I went to Madrid; fue genial = it was great.
Question words
¿qué? what? ¿quién? who? ¿dónde? where? ¿cuándo? when? ¿cómo? how? ¿por qué? why? ¿cuánto? how much? ¿cuál? which?
Reasons and connectives
porque = because; y = and; pero = but; también = also; luego, después = then; sin embargo = however.
ser (to be: identity, description)
soy, eres, es, somos, sois, son. Soy alto. Es profesora.
tener (to have)
tengo, tienes, tiene, tenemos, tenéis, tienen. Used for age: tengo trece años.
Time phrases
ayer (yesterday), hoy (today), mañana (tomorrow), el fin de semana pasado (last weekend), el fin de semana que viene (next weekend).
vivir (regular -ir verb)
vivo, vives, vive, vivimos, vivís, viven.
