Good writers rarely get it right first time. They plan, draft, then improve. Learning to check your own work catches the mistakes that cost marks, especially the commonly confused words.
The writing process
Plan: jot down ideas and put them in order.
Draft: write it out.
Edit: improve it. Are the words precise? Is the order clear? Is it right for the audience and purpose?
Proofread: check spelling, punctuation and grammar, word by word.
